Blessed Blooms Community Garden is a ministry of Living Word Church in Sterling. Our goal is to help people grow food, build community, and bless others in a practical way. We want this garden to be a welcoming place where individuals and families can enjoy the work of growing while also sharing with neighbors in need.
Low cost. Community focused. Ministry minded.
Rent a 6′ x 16′ plot for $25 and help bless Sterling through the harvest.
About the Garden
Each garden plot is 6′ x 16′ and costs $25 for the season. There are 20 plots available, and plots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The garden is laid out in a simple, organized grid with clear pathways so every plot is easy to access and maintain. Gardeners may reserve more than one plot if space is available. Scholarships are also available for anyone who needs financial assistance.
As part of the mission of Blessed Blooms, we ask each gardener to donate about 20% of their produce on the honor system to help serve underserved people in Sterling and Logan County. Gardeners may distribute that produce themselves or give it to Living Word Church to distribute.
In addition to individual plots, a portion of the garden is reserved for Living Word Church to grow food specifically for 100% donation to those in need. This helps ensure that the garden consistently serves our community in a tangible way.
2026 Garden Season
Season opening date: April 25, 2026
Planting begins: May 11, 2026
Season closing date: October 12, 2026
There is no registration deadline. Plots remain available until they are filled.
What We Provide
We provide the land, perimeter fencing, and shared water access needed to make gardening simple and accessible.
Water is available at shared hydrant points within the garden. Gardeners are responsible for watering their own plots and sharing access respectfully with others.
There is also a designated community area near the entrance with space for tools, tables, and gathering. In addition, we maintain the overall garden layout, including pathways and shared spaces, to keep the garden accessible and organized for everyone.
What Gardeners Provide
Gardeners are responsible for providing their own seeds or starter plants, tools, compost, mulch, fertilizer, and any other materials needed for their plot.
They are also responsible for the ongoing care of their space, including watering, weeding, harvesting, and keeping the plot reasonably neat.
Tools and materials should be taken home or stored in the designated community area. Personal items should not be left in pathways or shared spaces.
How to Reserve a Plot
To reserve a plot, pay by cash, check, or online. Once payment is received, you can claim your plot and begin preparing it for planting. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
To pay by cash or check, or to ask questions before signing up, contact Christopher Wheeler at (970) 380-4039 or office@livingwordsterling.com.
Garden Expectations
Each gardener is responsible for watering, weeding, and caring for their own plot throughout the season. Gardeners should keep their plots reasonably neat and free from excessive weeds, trash, and dead plants. If a plot borders a pathway, the gardener is also expected to help keep that side of the path clear and usable.
We ask everyone to respect neighboring plots and common areas. Tools, buckets, hoses, containers, and personal items must not be left in walkways or shared spaces, and pathways must remain fully clear at all times. Trellises, supports, and plants should remain within the boundaries of the assigned plot and should not block paths or spill heavily into a neighboring plot.
Growing Practices
Blessed Blooms prefers organic growing methods. Pesticides, herbicides, and chemical weed killers are not allowed in the garden. Fertilizers and soil amendments are allowed, but we ask that gardeners use organic products whenever possible. If there is any question about whether a product is acceptable, please ask before using it.
Unused or Abandoned Plots
We want every plot to be used well. After claiming a plot, gardeners should begin preparing or working it within 14 days. Plots should show visible planting or active cultivation within 21 days after planting begins on May 11, unless other arrangements have been made.
If a plot appears unused, overgrown, or abandoned, we will attempt to contact the gardener. If the plot is not brought back into reasonable condition within 7 days of notice, it may be reassigned without refund. If a gardener knows they will be unable to care for their plot for a period of time, we ask that they let us know as soon as possible.
Children and Guests
Children are welcome in the garden, but they must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Gardeners are responsible for the conduct of any family members or guests they bring onto the property.
Gardening is a hands-on outdoor activity, and each gardener uses the garden at their own risk. Please use care when walking the property, handling tools, and working in outdoor conditions. Living Word Church is not responsible for injuries, accidents, lost items, or damage arising from use of the garden, except where required by law.
